Saronic Sails RYA Training Courses

RYA training in the Athens area, previously managed by Aegean Mode, has now relocated to Nea Peramos, where Ionian Mode Sailing School delivers a full programme of RYA courses from the Saronic Sails base. The Saronic Sails RYA Training Center offers three main categories of training, allowing you to develop sailing skills through practical experience, structured certification, and theoretical knowledge.

All programs follow the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) system and can be adapted depending on your level, availability, and preferred learning format.

RYA Competent Crew

Introduction to sailing for beginners

The RYA Competent Crew course is a beginner-friendly, 6-day liveaboard experience based at Athenic Marina, Nea Peramos. Sailing through the Saronic islands, you’ll cover the essentials of crewing a yacht, from helmsmanship and sail handling to safety procedures and basic navigation. Logging at least 100 nautical miles, including night sailing.

RYA Day Skipper

Learn to plan and skipper short passages

The RYA Day Skipper course is a 6-day liveaboard programme based at Athenic Marina, Nea Peramos, designed to take you from competent crew to qualified skipper. You’ll cover passage planning, navigation, yacht handling, crew management and night sailing across the Saronic islands — logging at least 100 nautical miles.

RYA Coastal Skipper

Advanced navigation and boat handling

The RYA Coastal Skipper course is an advanced 6-day liveaboard programme for experienced sailors holding a Day Skipper certificate. Based at Athenic Marina, Nea Peramos, it focuses on longer passage planning, advanced navigation, heavy weather handling, and night sailing across the Saronic Gulf

RYA Yachtmaster Preparation

Professional-level training and certification pathway

The RYA Yachtmaster Coastal programme is an intensive preparation week followed by an official RYA examination, based at Athenic Marina, Nea Peramos. Aimed at experienced sailors with Coastal Skipper level and significant sea miles, it covers advanced skippering, navigation, pilotage, and emergency management,culminating in a live exam assessed by an independent RYA examiner.

RYA VHF / SRC Radio Course

How to operate a VHF radio (fixed & handheld) as a critical skill

A compact one-day course covering everything you need to confidently operate a VHF marine radio — from standard communication procedures and DSC to distress calls and emergency protocols. It ends with a short practical exam and awards the internationally recognised RYA Short Range Certificate (SRC), required by most charter companies and for Yachtmaster certification.
