RYA Day Skipper Course In Greece
Step up from crew to skipper in one intensive week — or start from zero and reach this level in just two weeks.

Two ways to join
Option 1 — One-week Day Skipper (for experienced sailors)
This is a one-week course for sailors who already cover the basics of the RYA Competent Crew level.
You can join if you:
- Hold an RYA Competent Crew certificate, OR
- Have equivalent practical experience (helming, sail handling, knots, safety, onboard life)
Option 2 — Start from zero (2-week program)
If you have no prior sailing experience, you can complete:
- Week 1: RYA Competent Crew
- Week 2: RYA Day Skipper
In just 2 weeks, you go from complete beginner to certified skipper.
What you’ll learn
This is a hands-on skipper training course, where you take responsibility onboard.
- Passage planning & navigation
- Pilotage and chartwork
- Rules of the road
- Meteorology
- Yacht handling under sail and engine
- Engine checks & basics
- Safety and emergency situations
- Crew management and leadership
- Night sailing
The experience
You’ll live onboard and rotate through skipper responsibilities.
Typical Flow
- Sunday (17:00): Arrival, briefing
- Monday–Friday: Sailing, navigation, skippering
- Saturday: Final session + departure
During the course, you will:
- Sail at least 100 nautical miles
- Complete night sailing
- Visit islands like Aegina, Poros, Hydra, and Epidavros
What you gain
By the end of the course, you will:
- Be able to skipper a yacht on short daytime passages
- Plan routes and make safe decisions
- Manage crew onboard
- Receive your RYA Day Skipper Certificate
This is the first certificate that allows you to charter a boat on your own in Greece.
