The RYA Competent Crew course by Saronic Sails RYA training center is a beginner-friendly, liveaboard sailing experience designed to turn complete novices into confident crew members. Over 6 days on board, you’ll gain hands-on experience while sailing through the stunning Saronic islands.

What you’ll learn

Throughout the week, you’ll actively participate in all aspects of sailing:

Steering and helmsmanship
Sail handling
Rope work and essential knots
Parts of the yacht and rigging
Rules of the road
Safety procedures and emergency response
Man overboard drills
Dinghy handling
Basic meteorology
Everyday life and teamwork on board

The Experience

You’ll live on board a training yacht for the duration of the course, combining structured instruction with real cruising.

Typical Flow

Sunday (17:00): Arrival, accommodation, briefing
Monday–Friday: Daily sailing, training, island stops
Saturday: Final session + departure around midday

During the week, you’ll sail approximately 100 nautical miles, including night sailing, while visiting destinations such as Aegina, Poros, Hydra, and Epidavros.
