Who this course is for
This course is designed for experienced sailors ready to go beyond Day Skipper level.
You should have:
- RYA Day Skipper certificate (or equivalent experience)
- Strong navigation and boat handling skills
- Confidence managing a yacht and crew
Typical minimum experience:
- ~300 nautical miles
- ~15 days at sea
- Some experience as skipper
- Night sailing experience
This is not a beginner course — it is the next step toward Yachtmaster level.
What you’ll learn
This course focuses on advanced skippering, decision-making, and passage planning.
- Advanced passage planning
- Pilotage in confined waters and limited visibility
- Coastal navigation by day & night
- Heavy weather preparation and handling
- Advanced meteorology
- Yacht handling under sail and engine
- Emergency and safety management
- Leadership and crew management
The goal is to build the confidence to handle longer and more demanding voyages.
The experience
You’ll live onboard and operate at a higher level of responsibility.
Typical flow
- Sunday (17:00): Arrival, briefing
- Monday–Friday: Advanced sailing, navigation, skippering
- Saturday: Final session + departure
During the course, you will:
- Sail at least 100 nautical miles
- Complete night sailing
- Visit islands like Aegina, Poros, Hydra, and Epidavros
What you gain
By the end of the course, you will:
- Be able to skipper a yacht on coastal passages by day and night
- Handle more complex navigation and weather conditions
- Make confident decisions as skipper in demanding situations
- Receive your RYA Coastal Skipper Certificate
This course is the final practical step before Yachtmaster preparation.
From skipper to advanced sailor
After completing this course, you move into the next level of sailing:
- Gain more miles and experience
- Prepare for RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Coastal or Offshore
- Open the path toward professional or advanced recreational sailing
- This is where you transition from holiday skipper to serious sailor.
